The Media Needs To Ask The LCSO….Why would they put this K-9 Koda in the line of fire during a gun fight that would most certainly put him in danger of being shot and dying in the line of duty?
These dogs cost much money with resources invested to train in which they should be defined as police officers when murdered. However, there also needs to be some care taken for their safety and well-being like not leaving them to die in your vehicle because of heat-stroke like at least one of the moron cops with TPD has done in the past.
The Tallahassee O talked with one of our sources from the LCSO today (remains anonymous) and it was stated: “Sgt. Brian Pearson lacks the experience and training to run these types of operations as the commanding officer”.
We do have to question why is this dog not alive today and how could this have been prevented?
Officers deal with murderers everyday and they often don’t get shot and die in the line of duty like this K-9 did. Future preventative measures would be a great idea for LCSO.

Leon County Sheriff’s Office Release
On January 31, 2013 LCSO K-9 “Koda” was killed while protecting his partner, Deputy Ron McMullen and other deputies from an armed violent fugitive.
“Koda” was fearless and brave, and because he gave his all that night, those deputies are alive and well. We all feel a debt of deep gratitude to “Koda” for his service and his sacrifice will never be forgotten.
To honor “Koda,” there will be a memorial service on Friday, February 8, 2013, at 1:00 p.m.
The service will take place at the Tallahassee Automobile and Collectibles Museum, 6800 Mahan Drive, Tallahassee, FL 32308. The museum is located near I-10, exit 209A.
This service is open to the public.

Deputies say “Koda” was killed January 31 by a suspect wanted for attempted murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm from a vehicle. During a confrontation with deputies in the area of North Monroe Street and Fred George Road, deputies say Carlos Manuel Cespedes, 31, shot and killed “Koda”, a 5-and-a-half year old German Shepard.
Deputies credit “Koda” with saving the lives of his partner, Deputy Ron McMullen and other deputies. Lt. James McQuaig with LCSO says as “Koda” was charging at Cespedes, it distracted Cespedes long enough to protect deputies and to allow them to draw their guns.
Sheriff Larry Campbell said, “Last night the Leon County Sheriff’s Office lost a valuable member of the agency. LCSO K-9 ‘Koda’ was killed while protecting his partner, Deputy McMullen and other deputies from an armed violent fugitive. ‘Koda’ was a fearless and loyal partner. He was trained to serve and protect, and that is exactly what he did.”
Cespedes is being held in the Leon County Jail.
“Koda” served with the Leon County Sheriff’s Office since 2008.
A memorial service for “Koda” will be held Friday, February 8 at 1:00 p.m. at the Tallahassee Automobile and Collectibles Museum at 6800 Mahan Drive. The service is open to the public.
